Why do you feel confused about what you want?

Confusion can feel frustrating. — Especially when you thought you were clear. You thought you knew what you wanted. Then, something shifts.

  • A life path no longer feels aligned.
  • A relationship no longer fits.
  • A dream no longer feels right.

You went from thinking you were clear to realizing everything had changed. So, what happened?

Is confusion a sign that you don’t know what you want?

Not always. This may sound strange, but confusion is often the beginning of clarity. It usually shows up when old patterns and new awareness collide.

Psychologist Leon Festinger called this cognitive dissonance. It’s the discomfort of holding competing truths at the same time. Here are some everyday examples:

  • You want peace. You’re used to chaos.
  • You want more. You’re afraid of change.

That creates emotional tension. It can feel like confusion.

Why does familiarity keep people stuck?

Dr. Daniel Kahneman’s research shows that the brain favors familiarity. Familiar feels safer than uncertain. — Even when what is familiar has hurt you. This is why people stay in:

  • Relationships that no longer fit.
  • Jobs they have outgrown.
  • Family systems that wound them.

The problem is not weakness. The problem is that uncertainty feels threatening.

How do you get clear about what you actually want?

One of the fastest tools for clarity is list making with complete honesty. I often invite my clients to start with what I call the Bad List.

In this process, you’ll write down:

  • What you no longer want.
  • What no longer fits.
  • What no longer feels healthy.
  • All the negative aspects of the situation.

I don’t believe in focusing only on the negative. So next, turn all the negatives into a positive list. If this is what isn’t working and what you don’t want, what are you actually seeking?

This process sharpens boundaries. This is important because boundaries protect your kingdom.

What does the elegant woman know about clarity?

The elegant woman understands that clarity is part of sovereignty. She cannot govern her kingdom well if she does not know what and who belongs inside it. That’s where the work begins.

Within.

Not out there.

Within.
